چکیده

How is sexual conflict during reproduction resolved when parents collaborate to rear offspring? A new study shows that female burying beetles communicate their hormonal status to their male partners to avoid costly superfluous mating, using an anti-aphrodisiac pheromone.

Effectiveness of Meaning Therapy on the Meaning of Life of Female Adolescents without Parental or Adequate Parental Care in the Alternative Care Center of Tehran

Introduction: Considering the important role which psychological interventions play in adolescents without parental  or adequate  parental care in the alternative care center, and since the acquisition of meaning is one of the most important components of adaptation to future crises in these groups, the present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of meaning therapy  on the meaning of l...

How sex-biased dispersal affects conflict over parental investment

Existing models of parental investment have mainly focused on interactions at the level of the family, and have paid much less attention to the impact of population-level processes. Here we extend classical models of parental care to assess the impact of population structure and limited dispersal. We find that sex-differences in dispersal substantially affect the amount of care provided by each...

The evolution of parental care in the context of sexual selection: a critical reassessment of parental investment theory.

Males and females are often defined by differences in their energetic investment in gametes. In most sexual species, females produce few large ova, whereas males produce many tiny sperm. This difference in initial parental investment is presumed to exert a fundamental influence on sex differences in mating and parental behavior, resulting in a taxonomic bias toward parental care in females and ...

The origin of parental care in relation to male and female life history

The evolution of maternal, paternal, and bi-parental care has been the focus of a great deal of research. Males and females vary in basic life-history characteristics (e.g., stage-specific mortality, maturation) in ways that are unrelated to parental investment. Surprisingly, few studies have examined the effect of this variation in male and female life history on the evolution of care. Here, w...

Sex differences in life history drive evolutionary transitions among maternal, paternal, and bi-parental care

Evolutionary transitions among maternal, paternal, and bi-parental care have been common in many animal groups. We use a mathematical model to examine the effect of male and female life-history characteristics (stage-specific maturation and mortality) on evolutionary transitions among maternal, paternal, and bi-parental care. When males and females are relatively similar - that is, when females...
